The park is managed by a non-governmental organization known as the Malaysian Zoological Society. As it is run by privat a organisation without government funding it relies on donations and entrance fees to finance its operations. This lack of funding seems to be the reason why some visitors complain about the state of some of the animal shelters and the state of the Zoo in general, even though things seems to be improving slowly. Still it has long ways to go to get on par with the Singapore Zoo.
Nevertheless, the Zoo Negara is a popular family destination and it can get crowded during holidays and and the weekend, finding parking can be problematic during this days.
